I’ve been publishing my New Venture Mentor blog, which directly serves entrepreneurs, and consulting directly with small business clients for years. I’ve also separately published pieces like my white paper, Re-Examining Entrepreneurship Support Structures to Improve Outcomes for Under-Served Entrepreneurs, and worked with non-profits that support entrepreneurs to help them improve their service offerings.
As we get a fresh start in 2018, I think it’s time that those two worlds meet so that 1) there is a shorter-form discussion of the issues with and failures of most non-profit entrepreneurship support and 2) entrepreneurs are aware of the short-comings they may encounter when seeking help from a non-profit entrepreneurship support organization (ESO) and can be prepared to make the best use of the resources available.
With that said, I’m launching a new blog mini-series called Honest About Entrepreneurship Support that will openly discuss these issues in easily digestible blog posts and I will cross-categorize all of these posts in New Venture Mentor as well so that business owners are informed about the services they’re receiving.
I have a couple dozen blog topics and will post the mini-series in fairly rapid succession during the first couple of months of 2018, so stay tuned.
I hope that we can get an honest conversation going that will lead to changes in how entrepreneurship support is funded and provided so that we’ll see improved outcomes for entrepreneurs.
