I’m a pretty big Game of Thrones fan (just like a zillion other people) so a story about the April Fools prank that Kit Harington (Jon Snow) played on his fiance, Rose Leslie (Ygritte) caught my eye.
Apparently, he hid a pretty life-like faux severed head in the fridge to scare Rose and it worked like a charm:
Well, sort of. Apparently Rose isn’t that into April Fools and told Kit that if he ever did anything like that again, they were done.
Why am I telling you guys about this? Because the moral of the story is know your audience!
As funny as Kit thought this gag was, Rose was not amused.
When you’re marketing your business, be as creative as you can be with the way you get your potential clients to notice you, but make sure you’re doing so in a way that will resonate with them, not just a way that resonates with you. You definitely don’t want to accidentally alienate your ideal clients with a promotion that you thought was awesome and they thought was awful.
FYI, this is not this week’s New Venture Mentor post. You’ll still get the regularly scheduled post tonight/tomorrow. This is just a little bonus tidbit of advice and I plan to send many more of these whenever something strikes me as relevant/helpful for you.
Once I’ve shared a few of these bite-sized tips, let me know if you like them and want me to keep posting them.
Cheers!
